About acupuncture
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an effective form of treatment that has evolved into a holistic health care system. Acupuncture and Chinese medicine doctors have used this non-invasive treatment to help millions of people recover and feel well.
Acupuncture supports natural healing. It can strengthen recovery and immunity, support physical and emotional health, and improve overall functioning and well-being. It is a safe, painless and effective way to treat a wide range of health problems.
Qi - or energy
What is Qi?
At the heart of this ancient medicine is the philosophy that Qi (pronounced “chi”), or vital energy, flows through the body. Qi revives the body and protects it from illness, pain and disease. The quality, quantity and balance of Qi affects human health.
How does Qi move?
Qi flows through specific paths called meridians. There are twelve main meridians in the body. Each of them is connected to specific organs and glands.
The paths of the meridians are like rivers flowing inside the body. Where the river flows, it transports life-giving water, which provides food for the earth, plants and people.
Similarly, where the paths of the meridians flow, they provide life-giving Qi, which provides food for every cell, organ, gland, tissue and muscle in the body.
How is Qi disturbed?
The obstacle in the flow of Qi is like a dam. When Qi is accumulated in one part of the body, the flow in the other parts will be limited. This blocking of the Qi flow can be harmful to human health, cutting off essential nutrients for the body, organs and glands.
Physical and emotional injury, stress, lack of exercise, overexertion, seasonal changes, poor diet, accidents, or overactivity are some of the many factors that can affect the quality, quantity, and balance of Qi.
Usually, when there is a blockage or imbalance, the body easily harmonizes, returning to the state of health and well-being. However, when this disturbance is prolonged or excessive, or if the body is in a state of weakness, illness, pain, or illness may occur.
Blocking the flow of Qi can be harmful to human health and lead to various signs and symptoms or health problems.
What does an acupuncturist do?
During the first interview, a full health history is examined. Questions are asked about health, symptoms and lifestyle. An appropriate physical examination is carried out, including the diagnosis of the pulse and tongue.
Collecting this information allows the practitioner to successfully diagnose and detect any specific Qi imbalances that may have contributed to a person’s health problems. The doctor can then create a well-constructed treatment plan.
After detecting Qi imbalances, the acupuncturist will place thin, sterile needles at specific acupuncture points along the meridian paths. This safe and painless insertion of needles can unlock the obstruction and balance Qi where she has lost her balance. After this, Qi can circulate freely throughout the body, providing adequate qi food for cells, organs, glands, tissues and muscles. This can eliminate pain and restore balance and harmony, as well as the body’s ability to self-heal – ultimately leading to optimal health and well-being.
Acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine is a safe, effective and drug-free therapy that can help solve many common ailments and problems.
